About the programme
The College of Health Sciences Postgraduate Academy invites you to join our inaugural Doctoral Preparation Programme—a unique opportunity designed to provide you with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to undertake your PhD. Our course is intended for students who are starting a PhD, or are in the early stages of their PhD, particularly those who have yet to finalise their protocol.
The programme runs from 11h00-16h40 daily. The later start is intended to allow participants with clinical or academic responsibilities to attend to these before the first session each day.
This is an in-person meeting. However, if there is demand, it will be offered in hybrid form for those, and only for those, who are prevented from attending by distance. Participants must commit to attending the full programme.
Topics include:
- Preparing for a PhD
- The scientific method, clinical reasoning and critical thinking
- Formulating a research proposal
- Research methodology
- Quantitative and qualitative research
- Statistics, bias and confounding
- Research integrity and ethics
- Exploiting the literature
- Scientific writing
